Active Isolated stretching is a game changer when you want to lengthen muscle and correct posture.

” The Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) method of muscle lengthening and fascial release is a type of Athletic Stretching Technique that provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups, but more importantly, AIS provides functional and physiological restoration of superficial and deep fascial planes.

Over the past few decades many experts have advocated that stretching should last up to 60 seconds. For years, this prolonged static stretching technique was the gold standard. However, prolonged static stretching actually decreases the blood flow within the tissue creating localized ischemia and lactic acid buildup. This can potentially cause irritation or injury of local muscular, tendinous, lymphatic, as well as neural tissues, similar to the effects and consequences of trauma and overuse syndromes. ”

Michelle’s training  of the osteopathic model allows  AIS technique in her treatments sessions to aid recovery of injury as well as structurally align posture thus reducing pain.Treating the casing around muscle and not just the muscle is the key to long term lengthening. When the fascial casing learns a new size the muscle it houses can fire with greater ease.

Active Isolated Stretch (A.I.S.) classes are starting in November on Wednesdays evenings at Gateway Healing Arts with Michelle Saurette. Join her in an interactive one hour classes at 6pm to gain knowledge of the myo-fascial system and how your body can reduce pain through specific stretches. This form of stretching reprograms your brain and your body to remember new ranges, so you see rapid improvements in flexibility. Gain body awareness and flexibility to shift your health into increased movement. Learn how the antagonistic muscle works hand in hand to allow your posture to be reestablished. For example the biceps and the triceps are opposing to each other. When one understands how to apply A.I.S. techniques to any muscle one realizes the whole body is connected in a remarkable manner.Weather you are recovering from an injury or wishing to invest in your personal health,  A.I.S. will open your mind up to how your body needs to move. Bring a blanket or mat, wear loose clothing and bring water to re-hydrate in this interactive class.  Register at Gateway Healing Arts , gatewayhealingarts@gmail.com or with Michelle at brainpowers1965@hotmail.com. 5 Simple Secrets to a Younger-Looking You

5 Simple Secrets to a Younger-Looking You

We’d all like to look younger. But do you ever feel that panicked jolt when you realize that you’re getting older with every passing second? Darn! See? I just got older typing that sentence! I know I don’t want to waste any of my precious time trying to fight against… well, time. Check out these essential, economical and time-wise ways we can bring back some of that youthful spark.
Smile, sing and laugh. Giving up grins and giggles just because you don’t want smile lines around your lips and eyes? Big mistake! It’s not the lines that give away your age so much as your attitude. A joyous, full-bellied laugh can lighten and lift your spirits, slashing stress hormones and giving your insides a soothing, relaxing massage. And an authentic, toothy smile can instantly brighten and lift your face. Shy about the shade of your smile? I use just baking soda to keep my smile white and fresh. I also suggest singing out loud even if you feel your voice is not a performance voice. We shift our whole being to a lighter space when a tune is in the mind and shared out loud.
Open your eyes. Let the world see your baby blues, or browns, or greens! Shore up errant eyebrows without over-plucking, aiming for a medium arch that frames a bit past the width of your eye. Perfect conditions for plucking? Use flat, angled-tip tweezers in an amply lit spot after you’ve just finished a shower so your pores are more open and willing. And if you’re going to drop any dough on a youth-seeking product, go for a specially formulated eye cream. I use green tea bags around the eyes to tighten the skin and reduce puffiness, drink the tea to internal bonus. That delicate skin beneath our eyes soaks up water from regular lotions and gives us that balloon-eyed look that adds years to our faces.

Get your beauty sleep the right way. Bedtime stress, late dinners and midnight wake-ups can all interrupt the flow of a healthy night’s sleep. And when you’re deprived of a deep doze, your skin will show it. Make sleep a non-negotiable part of your beauty routine. Get your 6 to 8 hours per night and wake to clearer skin and less under-eye puffiness (not to mention sexy bed-head hair!) For optimal beauty rest, sleep on your back with your head elevated to keep fluid from pooling around your eyes.

Focus on your forgotten spots. You see your face in the mirror all of the time, but you get rarer glimpses of a certain spots on your body that are age giveaways – your hands and feet, neck and chest, and backs of your arms. Exfoliate and moisturize these often neglected spots. To spoil your hands and feet at bedtime, slather on lotion and slide your hands and feet into thin socks or gloves to seal in the moisture.I like to use castor oil on my feet a few times per year. This thick natural oil is perfect to bring tired feet back to new.

Play in nature

Get out side and play.Create and engage with nature, allow your inner child the freedom to be and release tensions associated with the seriousness of life.

Lastly drink lots of WATER

Hydration is key to the largest organ you have….the skin. Our body cries for water but we often do not listen. I challenge you to take in 8 full glasses of water per day for 3 weeks. Just by increasing water you will notice an amazing shift in your being. The mind is clear, the skin is more elastic and the excess toxins leave with ease. The onset of winter can be a time when water is more challenging to drink . I use herbal teas from my own garden to prepare hot and cold water beverages. A squeeze of lemon and bit of honey and I know I am hydrating well. We are blessed to be on mountain water system, that means no chemicals in our water.

I am including the below from Ashley Pitman, as I could not have said it any better

Why You Should Drink Warm Water & Lemon

The way you start each day is incredibly important. Whether you’re a mom, a coach, a writer, a small business owner or a yoga teacher, what you do first thing in the morning matters.
According to Ayurvedic philosophy, choices that you make regarding your daily routine either build up resistance to disease or tear it down.
Ayurveda invites us to get a jump-start on the day by focusing on morning rituals that work to align the body with nature’s rhythms, balance the doshas and foster self-esteem alongside self-discipline.
Your mind may say you have to check emails, take the dog out, get the kids out the door, that you can’t be late for work or that you just don’t have enough time to cultivate your own morning rituals.
But, if you can only make time for one ritual that will improve your health, let it be this…..
Start the day out with a mug of warm water and the juice of half a lemon.
It’s so simple and the benefits are just too good to ignore. Warm water with lemon:
1. Boosts your immune system
Lemons are high in Vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C is great for fighting colds and potassium stimulates brain and nerve function and helps control blood pressure.
2. Balances pH
Lemons are an incredibly alkaline food, believe it or not. Yes, they are acidic on their own, but inside our bodies they’re alkaline (the citric acid does not create acidity in the body once metabolized). As you wellness warriors know, an alkaline body is really the key to good health.
3. Helps with weight loss
Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster. And, my experience is that when I start the day off right, it’s easier to make the best choices for myself the rest of the day.
4. Aids digestion
The warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis—the waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving. Lemons and limes are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen ama, or toxins, in the digestive tract.
5. Acts as a gentle, natural diuretic
Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.
6. Clears skin
The vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well.
7. Hydrates the lymph system
This cup of goodness helps start the day on a hydrated note, which helps prevent dehydration (obviously) andadrenal fatigue. When your body is dehydrated, or deeply dehydrated (adrenal fatigue) it can’t perform all of it’s proper functions, which leads to toxic buildup, stress, constipation, and the list goes on. Your adrenals happen to be two small glands that sit on top of your kidneys, and along with your thyroid, create energy. They also secrete important hormones, including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals, like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your adrenals are also responsible for regulating your stress response. So, the bottom line is that you really don’t want to mess with a deep state of dehydration!
Adopting just this one practice of drinking a cup of warm water with lemon in the morning for a month can radically alter your experience of the day. Don’t be surprised if you begin to view mornings in a new light.
Like I said, the recipe is really simple—a cup of warm (not hot) water and the juice from half a lemon.
In the comments below, tell me which one of these benefits is going to get you to try this morning ritual. Or, if you’re already a lemon water junkie, what specific benefits have you noticed?
